Diabesity

Obesity is a major risk factor for Type 2 Diabetes. Many physicians today recognize the important relationship between obesity and glycemic control and address the combination of the two as a new condition called: DIABESITY.

Diabesity causes many complications and co-morbidities. While diabetes may affect your kidneys, heart and vision – obesity substantially increases the risk of hypertension, stroke, hyperlipidemia, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems and endometrial, breast, prostate and colon cancers, as well as cardiovascular disease. It is therefore recommended to seek a comprehensive treatment to address the full spectrum of the diabesity condition.

The figure below describes the relationship between BMI and Type 2 Diabetes.

The DIAMOND System is the first dedicated Interventional Diabetology System approved for clinical use in Europe. It is an implanted medical device that helps patients to control blood sugar levels, without the need of adding medications, like insulin. The implant device is recommended in particular for obese Type 2 Diabetes patients, those who fit the criteria, described here, for diabesity. In clinical trials, DIAMOND System demonstrates that it brings significant glycemic and metabolic improvement accompanied by weight loss, while maintaining a clean safety profile.
